Cebu hopes for return of missing Argao pulpit panels

Photo courtesy of Wikipedia With the return of the Boljoon pulpit panels after about four decades, it turns out that another church in Cebu Province also lost its old pulpit panels many years ago. Built from 1788 to the 1830s, the church of Argao still has—although now unpalatably gilded—its impressive retablos and pulpit with carved, polychromed panels, most likely similar in character to the Boljoon panels. Details are sketchy on the designs of the panels and when these were stolen, but Cebu’s heritage sector is also hoping for their return. How Measles Attacks an Unvaccinated Child

For a child who is not vaccinated against measles — one of the world’s most infectious viruses — no classroom, school bus or grocery store is safe. Nine out of 10 unvaccinated people exposed to an infected person will catch it, and once measles takes root, the virus can damage the lungs, kidneys and the brain. With falling U.S. vaccination rates and outbreaks that have caused more than 580 cases and at least one death, health experts expect measles to infect hundreds or even thousands more across the nation. Barber wanted to find a way for his fellow Hall of Famers to play on the big stage and showcase their personalities during retirement. After all, seemingly every retired NFL star picks up the game of golf and immediately becomes addicted to it shortly thereafter. So Barber had…

Trump Tariffs Could Spike iPhone Prices To Almost $2,300 If Apple Decides To Pass On The Costs To Buyers – Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL)

President Donald Trump has enacted sweeping tariffs that could significantly increase the cost of consumer goods, including Apple Inc. AAPL iPhones. Analysts foresee a potential price surge of 30% to 40% if Apple passes these costs onto consumers. What Happened: According to a report by Reuters, most iPhones are manufactured in China, which now faces a 54% tariff. If these tariffs persist, Apple must choose between absorbing the increased costs or transferring them to customers. Apple shares dropped 9.3% on Thursday, marking their worst day since March 2020. Projections from Rosenblatt Securities suggest that Apple’s iPhone 16, initially priced at $799, could rise to $1,142. The iPhone 16 Pro…

Is the 4% rule outdated? Its creator weighs in

If you’re nearing or in retirement, you should be familiar with the 4% rule. It says that you can withdraw 4% of your retirement savings each year, adjust it for inflation annually, and your money should last you at least 30 years. It was an idea suggested by William Bengen in 1994 and one that is often cited in literature. Bengen was a financial advisor in California and came to the 4% number analyzing historic stock market data and found hat 4% was a safe withdrawal rate. Whether you went through the Great Depression or through periods of high inflation,…

Hi friends! Happy Friday! What are you up to this weekend? It’s our performance of Carmina Burana with the symphony – I can’t wait!! – and Liv also has a dance competition. The Internal Revenue Service issued a reminder Thursday that individuals and businesses in certain disaster-declared areas have until May 1, 2025, to file their 2024 federal income tax returns and make tax payments. The automatic extension applies to taxpayers in parts of twelve states affected by federally declared disasters in 2024. The IRS emphasized that taxpayers do not need to contact the agency to receive this relief. “If a taxpayer’s address of record is in a disaster area locality, individual and business taxpayers automatically get the extra time without having to ask for it,” the IRS stated.
